  • A little shrinkage was evident as a cold gray day greeted a smaller number of racers for the 4th Annual Stafford Oktoberfest Wiener Dog Races.
"Our attendance this year was drastically affected by the cold and rainy weather," said race promoter Julynn Whitlock. "However, we still had 33 Brave Wiener Dogs that showed up despite the cold weather.
All wiener dogs that attended had a wonderful time despite the cold. The Stafford races are already the biggest and the best races in the State of Kansas according to Whitlock. The full bleachers and standing room only crowd lining the course attests to the fact that the event draws a large crowd during the Oktoberfest celebration.
This year racers from all across the state of Kansas and as far away as Minnesota attended the event.
"This couple had never entered their dogs in a race before, but they saw footage of last year's race online and decided to come down and enter," Whitlock said. "We were also able to raise $250 for the Pawnee County Humane Society Inc, which is a no kill shelter in Larned.
"Big thanks to all who donated to our raffle and also to South Fork Veterinary Hospital for donating the Trophies and some great items to our raffle."
