St. John junior Tigers finish season with winning record

The St. John junior Tigers finished their season on a winning note defeating Otis-Bison 40-12 and closing their season with only one loss.

“This was a nice group of young men that played for Coach Sanders and I this year,” said Head coach Clint Kinnamon. “They worked fairly hard and developed as players and more importantly as young men.”

The Junior Tigers started off quick scoring on a pass from quarterback Cole Kinnamon to Jorge Calleros after taking possession of an onside kick on the opening kick off.

The Tigers scored again on rushing touchdowns from Trace Shultz and Jorge Calleros. Quincy Smith scored the team’s other passing touchdown.

“I will thoroughly enjoy watching them play basketball this winter and wish them great successes,” Kinnamon said. “I also look forward to working with them as high school basketball players in the future.

“Thanks to Danny Smith, Darin Brummer, Ryan Witt and Vance Fisher for taking stats for the team all season. Also to Mario Ibarra for filming and Joel Ibarra has been a very good manager the past two seasons, and a special thank you to Coach Derek Sanders. He remained so professional all throughout the season and he was able to continue coaching the St. John-Hudson youth as he has over the many years we have worked together.”

Kinnamon, who has 14 years coaching multiple sports at USD 350 with high school basketball and junior high football has coached his last game on the gridiron.

“I have enjoyed coaching the JH teams I have here at St. John,” he said. “Last night, (Thursday) was a good way to end my football coaching days. Many thanks to all of the players, including this year’s team, that have come through the junior high ranks while I was coaching.”

Kinnamon will continue as the head coach of the St. John Tiger boys’ basketball team. A head coach for the 2013 junior Tigers football team has not been announced.
