  • The theft of a large load near Stafford landed a local man and his accomplice in jail Tuesday afternoon.
    Alex Stapleton, St. John and Johnathon Paul Jensen, Wichita were arrested on felony theft charges after the two were spotted allegedly stealing 25-30 long section of aluminum irrigation pipe from a location at SE 40th street and SE 30th Avenue in Stafford County.
    According to Stafford County Sheriff reports the two were seen loading three joints of pipe into the back of a pickup truck. Calvin Barlett, who reported the theft told officers the pipe was stacked inside a fenced in area. He saw the two load up the pipe and then leave the area.
    Officers from the Kansas Highway Patrol, and Pratt County assisted Stafford county and city officers in the search for the suspects according to Stafford County Sheriff officer Tom Fischer.
    KHP troopers stopped Stapleton and Jensen on K-61 Hwy just east of the city of Pratt. Both suspects were taken to the Pratt County jail where they were booked in lieu of bond. The two will be charged in Stafford County District Court.
    The value of the stolen sections of pipe was placed at approximately $1,000.
