Enjoy the experience of Cheyenne Bottoms at night, learn more about the stars that sparkle above and view them during the Kansas Wetlands Education Center’s third star gazing program on March 16.

Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area Manager Karl Grover will provide telescopes and lead the free program, which begins at 8:30 p.m. There is a maximum limit of 15 for this program, with preregistration required. Register by calling the Center at 620-786-7456 or 877-243-9268.

Registration deadline is March 12. If the weather is cloudy, the Center will contact participants and reschedule if possible.

Each season brings a change in the heavens but late winter is special for star gazing. No other season offers so many bright stars and other deep sky wonders so close together. Grover will seek out the planet Mars, galaxies and nebulaes for viewing. Be sure to bring comfortable chairs for viewing and dress for the weather. You are also welcome to bring your own telescope.

ps. Thank you to Vincent Van Gogh for painting his own Starry Night.
