St. John golfers take second at home regional competition

St. John Tiger Aaron Spare claimed a first place finish at the regional golf competition at the Stafford County Golf Course, Monday, hitting a 78.

After placing third at the Central Prairie League tournament in Claflin, the St. John Tigers stepped it up for a second place finish at the 1A regional competition hosted at the Stafford County Golf Course, Monday.

Lost Springs – Centre won the top spot in the event with 337 points. St. John and Quivira Heights had a close battle for second with Q Heights hitting 353, but a tight 78 strokes by Aaron Spare placed him in first, and a much improved Jacob Falk’s 86 strokes garnered him seventh overall putting the team in second with 350 points.

Danton Hilton hit 92 placing him 13th after a few tough rounds.

Dace Mercer hit 94 for 16th, Bryce Garner placed 17 with 95 strokes and Austin Young finished 20th with 97 strokes.

State golf play starts Monday, 24 at Turkey Creek golf course in McPherson.
