The 6-3 St. John Tigers fell in the opening round of the Mid-Winter Classic losing 73-62 to 3-6 Nickerson.
The Tigers started off with a lead going 10-6 in the first period before Nickerson warmed up in the second hitting 19 points to the Tigers 11 for a 25-21 haltime lead over the Tigers.
The Tigers made a comeback run in the third besting Nickerson 18-17, but a huge fourth period by Nickerson scoring 31 to the Tigers 23 ended St. John's run.
The Tigers shot only 23 percent in the first half, hitting 41.9 in the second.
Medicine Lodge won the second game of the night defeating Larned 61-58.
The Tigers move into the consolation bracket to face Larned Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
Nickerson moves on to face Medicine Lodge Friday at 6:30 p.m.
In continuing first round action, 7-1 Macksville will face 2-6 Central Plains at 6:30 Thursday. Pratt 7-0 will take on Wichita West 1-7 in the 8:30 game.
