Volunteers are needed to represent Stafford County by working in the county booth at the Kansas State Fair, Friday, Sept 10 - Sunday, Sept.19.
Volunteers from across the county are invited to spend a four-hour shift visiting with fellow Kansans about Stafford County. Shifts are from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., 1 - 5 p.m., and 5 - 9 p.m.
“We need 2 people at each shift,” Jeanette Hildebrand, one of the co-organizers. “A free ticket to the fair is given to each volunteer.”
A new feature to the state booth this year will be an opportunity for local artists, and organizations to feature their trade or event by volunteering a few hours at the booth according to Terry Spradley, another of the booth organizers.
“The county commissioners wanted to clean up the look of the booth this year, by replacing the numerous flyers and signs on the table,” he said. “This year we are working on a county visitors guide that will replace the individual brochures.
However if some event organizers, like the Victorian Tea ladies wanted to sign up for a couple consecutive blocks of time at the booth, they could bring brochures or other items during the time they are there. I think it would be neat for the ladies to work a day, maybe wear some of their Victorian dresses or something. It all makes the booth more fun, and interesting for visitors.”
Spradley said artists could do the same thing if they wanted to bring down some samples of their work and have a “meet the artist” day.
“I have to get this all approved with the state fair board folks first though,” Spradley said. “If someone is interested in doing that, they can contact me at the paper, (St. John News) and I can tell them more.”
