MANHATTAN – Brian & Carolyn Dunn, were honored as Kansas Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year for Farm Bureau’s 7th geographic district of south-central Kansas. The Dunn family received their award during Kansas Farm Bureau’s 91st annual meeting in Manhattan, Nov. 20.

One family in each of the Kansas Farm Bureau’s 10 geographic districts is selected each year for the Farm Family of the Year award. The award recognizes families for their service and leadership in agriculture, Farm Bureau and their communities.

The Dunns farm their own ground and partner with Brian’s father on additional acreage. Crops include wheat, dryland and irrigated corn, milo, alfalfa, rye and soybeans in rotation. They run cattle on crop residues through the winter and ship them to grass, mostly out of state, through the summer.

The Dunns are active Farm Bureau members. Brian has served on the Stafford County Farm Bureau board of directors since 1999 and has served as president, vice president and treasurer. He’s represented his county Farm Bureau as a voting delegate at the Kansas Farm Bureau annual meeting. Brian has volunteered his time with the FB Hay & Forage advisory committee at the state and national level.

Brian serves as a member of the Stafford County Fair Board and is a former board member of the Stafford County Extension Council. He is currently the treasurer for the Trinity Community Church and a board member of Seedstocks Plus, Kansas Gelbvieh Association and Stafford County Flour Mills.

Carolyn represents KFB’s 7th District on the board of the Voters Organized To Elect Farm Bureau Friends, and is a coach in the KFB-collaborative effort known as the Kansas Hometown Prosperity initiative. Brian and Carolyn have been active participants in Young Farmers & Ranchers including competing in the marketing contest, discussion meet and achievement award.

Carolyn is a Golden Belt Community Foundation board member and helped initiate and co-facilitate the Leadership Golden Belt program. She was a two-term member of the Kansas Corn Commission and served as a liaison to the U.S. Grains Council.

The Dunns have three children, Preston, 5; Ian, 3; and Garrett, 1.

Kansas Farm Bureau represents grassroots agriculture. Established in 1919, this non-profit advocacy organization supports farm families who earn their living in a changing industry.
