As part of the county’s economic development program, Stafford County Commissioners took a step toward marketing the resources and attractions of the county with the creation of a Stafford County Visitors’ Guide.
One of the goals of the visitor’s guide is to compile all of Stafford County’s attractions, resources, events, and other listings in one brochure that will be handed out in the county booth at Kansas State Fair in September and distributed through some of the visitors’ centers throughout state.
“This will clean up our state fair booth display for one thing,” said Commissioner Clayton Grimmett. “Last year we had a lot of stuff all over the table and it looked a little cluttered. I noticed Lindsborg only had that one magazine out there and it looked so much cleaner.”
All businesses, organizations, festivity organizers or other groups in Stafford County are encouraged to get in the magazine. The destinations magazine will be full color and printed on glossy magazine quality paper. Currently the plan is to publish a new guide every two years.
Jerry Mattocks and Terry Spradley, editor St. John News, are heading up the project, but they encourage residents not to wait to be contacted by one of them.
“We want every business and tourist attraction to be represented in this publication,” Spradley said. “Jerry and I will be out visiting with folks, but don’t wait for one of us to call you. If you have a something to promote to visitors contact one of us. He’s in the book. I’m usually at the paper.”
Festivals and event dates are needed by July 28 to make the event calendar list. Include event location, date and contact number There is no charge for event listings.
