81st Annual Stafford County Farm Bureau Meeting, St. John:  Thursday, August 19, the 81st Annual Meeting of the Stafford County Farm Bureau Association will be held Thursday, Aug. 19, 7 p.m.  at the IOOF Lodge,  All Farm Bureau members are invited to attend.  Stafford County Farm Bureau has approximately 850 members.

Galactic Blast Back to School, St. John:  Sunday, August 22, 6 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 807 E 1st Ave. A Get out and enjoy a light supper and some family fun and fellowship while doing something for others (and yourself!). This is a community outreach for children in foster care at Youthville, one of the largest nonprofit, child welfare agencies in Kansas sponsored by the United Methodist Church. Plans are to decorate and fill 60 school bags to be delivered to the Dodge City Campus of Youthville. Bring extra school supplies if you can but is not a requirement. Your help can make a difference in the lives of others - and in your own!

Are ya feeling lucky?, St. John:  Thursday, August 26, you’re heading to Dodge City, baby - the midwest equivalent of Vegas. Sort of. Bus is leaving the Witt Center at 8 a.m. and returning at 4 p.m. The restaurant there has some of the yummiest soup west of this county if you get hungry. Grab your lucky rabbits foot, your lucky four leaf clover and wear your lucky undies but first call 549-6549 to save your lucky bus seat.  An SJRC event.

“40 Years, 40 Artists”, Great Bend:  Now through August 27 at the Shafer Galley, the summer exhibit of “40 Years, 40 Artists”, featuring the works of 40 artists from the gallery’s permanent collection. M-f 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Sundays by appointment. Contact Megan Benitz for further information at 620-792-9342.

32nd Annual Big Benefit Auction, BCC Foundation, Great Bend:  Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Highland Hotel. It’s a “Night in Napa” beginning at 6 p.m. with Silent Auction; Live Auction begins at 8 p.m. and auction proceeds go to BCC academic scholarships and programs enhancements for the 2011-2012 year.  Call Darnell Holopirek at 620-792-9367 for more info.

It’s SOCCER time in St. John:  Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. is the absolute final deadline to get onboard with the Fall Soccer 4 on 4 League. For girls and boys ages 3 through grade 6, the games will be played in Stafford, Sylvia, Macksville and at Cornwell Park in St. John with the first game Sept. 18. Stop by the SJRC office at the Witt Center and get yourself ready for some soccer!

Calling all girls for the Volleyball team, St. John:  Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. is te absolute final deadline to get girls in 4th through 6th grade registered for this league. First game is Sept. 20 and they’ll be played in Stafford, Macksville and St. John. Registration forms are at the SJRC office - Witt Center - and T-shirts will be provided upon payment.
