The St. John-Hudson girls junior varsity basketball team came away as “Tournament Champions” in Pratt-Skyline's 2012 JV Tournament, easily defeating the Cheney Cardinals 49-21 on Saturday after earlier victories against the Hutchinson Trinity Celtics on Saturday, Jan. 7 and the Ellinwood Eagles last Monday.
Despite shooting only 50 percent from the free throw line playing in the Championship game, getting into foul trouble and ending the game having four girls on the floor, the Lady Tigers didn't have much trouble getting the win, unlike Thursday's match-up against Ellinwood where the Tigers had a four point lead playing with four on the floor and keeping the slim lead with several minutes left in the game.
In the championship match, Teresa Christie had high point honors with 14 points, followed by Ashlyn Fisher's 11 (nine of her points coming from three's), Kendra Hacker 10, Tara Christie 10, and Jessica Hanson with four points.
“The Lady Tigers played tough defensively, hit the boards, made great passes and got the ball inside to their big girls to score.” said coach Trish Wade. “It was a good effort from all the girls and we were really proud of them.”
Total points for the tournament: Teresa Christie 28 (2 games), Haley Falk 9 (one game), Tara Christie 28, Maddy Lippoldt 11, Fisher 28, Hacker 12, Desiree Hull 10 and Hanson four points (one game).
Other schools participating in the tournament were Fairfield, Norwich, Macksville and Stafford.
