There will be a rally in Dodge City this summer, but it won’t be a motorcycle rally — not quite.

The Brothers of the Third Wheel will hold a three-day event July 13-16 at Wright Park. The BTW National Trike-In will feature trikes — often custom-made — from throughout the nation.

"The national rally is our largest event of the year," said Alex Ross, BTW executive director. "Last year, at Deadwood, we had more than 700 participants.

"Now, with the move, we may lose some trike riders until they catch up with us, but we believe we’ll get at least 400."

The rally will feature daily destination rides, a light parade, a Saturday night awards dinner and entertainment and a trike show in Wright Park.

"This is a great location for us because everything can be centralized for us," Ross said. "We’ll be staying at the new Holiday Inn at Wright Park and the new RV park there.

"We also will be using Hoover Pavilion for some stuff and the park itself for our trike show on Saturday.

"We’ve had requests over the years to have a centralized location where riders don’t have to ride all over the place — and while we’ve had that at some regional rallies — this will be the first time we’ll have it for the national rally."

Ross picked Dodge City for logical reasons.

"Our members wanted a location centrally located," he said. "Deadwood was too far north and Arkansas was too far south for some.

"So, I stuck a finger in the middle of the country and Dodge City was it. The fact it has everything we need and it has Western history is a plus. We’re coming to Dodge City and we hope to have the rally there for a long time."

Brothers of the Third Wheel was founded in 1983. It is a non-profit association for the sole purpose of uniting trikers around the world and help provide them with the information they need concerning trikes and trike riding. The group has more than 8,000 members worldwide.

"Trike riders are growing," Ross said. "Can-am is selling 6,000 units a month with no signs of slowing down.

"Harley-Davidson makes trikes and Indian is going to start making them. Of course, there are many custom trikes out there to.

"The people in Dodge City we’ve been working with are great and making sure we have everything we need. It’s going to be a great rally."
