The issue: Election equipment

Background: The McPherson County Clerk's office is looking at options to update the equipment the county uses during elections. What is in use now is about 12 years old and relies on outdated technology. Options under consideration include a new tabulating machine and lighter voting machines provided for people with disabilities. Bids have been received, and officials have discussed how to best allocate available funds.

County action: Commissioners decided to discuss this topic more in issue to determine which options would best fit the needs of McPherson County voters.

The issue: Office space

Background: The Kansas Attorney General has requested office space for an employee to be based in McPherson. Because the County Attorney's office does not have available space, Torrance Parkins asked commissioners to allocate additional space for the Attorney General's employee.

County action: Commissioners requested more information about various costs, such as liability, and discussed and appropriate cost to rent the space. County and Attorney General employees will discuss more details.
