The St. John Tiger boys cross county team scored several personal bests and won the Sterling Invitational.
The St. John Cross Country team traveled to the Sterling Country Club on September 5th to compete against 23 other teams in the Sterling Invitational Cross Country Meet. It was a humid day but some cloud cover made for some nice running conditions and the course was in good shape.
The Varsity boys posted several personal records and won the meet defeating 4A schools Pratt, Buhler and Larned. Five Tiger runners collected top 25 medals. A.J. Miller led the way with a 4th place finish and a PR time of 17:32.9. Braden Witt finished in 8th PR (17:50.5), Quincy Smith 11th PR (17:58.4), Mason Osborne 20th (18:18.9), Hunter Hanson 22nd PR (18:23.7). Trey Fisher 28th PR (18:36.9) and Cashe McVey 32nd (18:45.1). Team scores: St. John 57, Pratt 77, Buhler 82, Larned 139
In the JV boys’ race, Wrangler Walker pulled away to win the race with a time of 18:33.8. Luke Mercer placed 6th (20:09.6), Chase Fisher 22nd (22:20.2), and Ethan Huston 24th PR(22:35.3). In the Freshman boys’ race, Dylan Reed placed 2nd PR (19:00.6) and Uriel Calleros placed 4th PR (19:23.4).
“Our boys have been working hard in practice and it is fun to see that hard work paying off in the form of some great times. Even though we are running well, we can get faster, and I feel that we have some better races in front of us,” said Coach Joel Delp
Leslie Ramirez and Paige Doran ran in the Varsity girls’ race. Leslie finished in 40th place with a personal record time of 24:23.2. Paige finished in 43rd place with a season best time of 24:49.4.
In the JV girls’ race, Jaden Reed finished in 11th place with a personal record time of 26:54.0.
“The girls got out and competed hard from the start today. We really saw their times come down. Like the boys, I feel like we can still get faster in the next couple of weeks,” Delp said.
The team will compete next at the South Central Invitational/CPL meet on Thursday, September 12th at 4:30.
