Pratt Community College donated over 400 warm coats, blankets, gloves and hats to the Hope Center in Pratt where they are available free to anyone who needs these items.
Cold weather should not be a downer this year for anyone in Pratt. Warm coats, blankets, stocking hats, mittens and shoes are available, free for the taking, at the Hope Center at 314 S. Main. More than 400 coats were recently dropped off at the center, the results of a collection drive at Pratt Community College.
"We were looking for a way to give back to the community and decided to hold a coat drive," said Jessica Sanko, Coordinator of College Relations. "We got in contact with the One Warm Coat organization and it just took off from there."
A box strategically placed in the college's Benson Education Center commons area soon filled to overflowing with hats, gloves, sweaters, blankets and 268 coats. Adding to the collection effort was a sizable donation of 197 brand new windbreaker jackets (never worn, still with tags) from Fincher's Findings in Medicine Lodge.
“The best part about working with One Warm Coat’s program is that we keep all of the coats we collect in the Pratt community," Sanko said.
According to Jeanette Gaider, director of the Hope Center, these coats and related items are now ready and available for the public.
"We are open every week day from 1 to 5 p.m.," Gaider said. "We have all different sizes and styles available, something for everyone."
There are not pre qualifications or explanations needed from anyone wanting to pick up a coat, blanket, shoes, or hat at the center. All are welcome.
