The Lady Mustangs were three points short in a 34-36 loss to La Crosse.
It was not a good week for the Macksville Lady Stangs as they went down to defeat, first a week ago last Tuesday at La Crosse, losing a close one to the Leopards 34-36, then last Friday, taking a hard loss from the Victoria Lady Knights 31-53.
In Tuesday’s game, the second and fourth quarters were killers for the Stangs, while in the first and third quarters they outscored the Leopards.
The Lady Stangs led 13-9 in the first with four Lady Stangs doing the scoring. Senior Lyset Ibarra led, first making a basket and then nailing a 3-pointer, followed by BrayLynn Anshutz who made two baskets. Cindy Ibarra and Lexi Wright did the rest with each making a basket.
Then the lead switched in the second as the Stangs could muster up just five points, while the Leopards had 10. Lyset Ibarra made her second 3-pointer, and Cindy Ibarra made a basket, the score at the half, Macksville 18, La Crosse 19.
The score evened out in the third as the Lady Stangs scored 14 points, while the Leopards had 13, the score going into the final quarter all tied at 32 all.
Neither team played all that well in the fourth, as the Stangs scored just two points, and the Leopards didn’t do much better scoring four, but just enough to grab the game from the Stangs 34-36.
Three days later at Victoria, once again the Lady Stangs won two quarters and lost two. But this time, the losses came in the first and third quarters.
The Stangs fell behind 7-16 after one, outscored the Knights 11-9 in the second, then the flor caved in the third as the Stangs scored one point to the Knights 19, and in the final quarter the Stangs outscored the Knights 12-9. Macksville falls to Victoria 31-53.
“Tonight's game was rough, we got out played” said Macksville head coach Chet Skinner. “They work hard on defense and push the ball up the floor and stay in attack mode. We struggled to shoot the ball and need to get back on track next week.”
“Tonight was a tough game, both teams battled back and forth throughout the game. We struggled shooting from the field and the line. Had multiple opportunities at the end of the game to tie it up but could get a shot to fall.”
