The Lady Mustangs rebounded from a 46-55 loss to the Kinsley Coyotes to defeat the Fowler Goldbugs 59-19.

The Macksville Lady Stangs broke even last week, defeating the Fowler Goldbugs 52-19 last Friday at Fowler. At home earlier on Tuesday, the Stangs lost to the Kinsley Coyotes 46-55.Right from the start, the Lady Stangs were heading for the win, leading the Fowler Goldbugs 11-1 after one quarter. Senior Lyset Ibarra did most of the damage in the first, making two baskets and canning a 3-pointer. BrayLynn Anshutz and Lexi Wright did the rest as they both made a basket.

Lyset Ibarra added five more points as she made her second 3-pointer and a basket in the second. Jenna Russell was heading to be the high scorer for the day as she made two baskets and nailed a 3-pointer.

Anshutz went 2-2 from the line and scored two baskets. Wright added another basket, the score going into the half with the Stangs leading 31-9.

In the third, Russell’s hands were sizzling, getting four straight baskets, and for good measure canning her second 3-pointer. Russell was the lone man on the board as she made all of Macksville’s points, giving her 18 points for the day, the score going into fourth with Macksville leading 42-15.

The final quarter had Lyset Ibarra and Anshutz both making two baskets each, and Lydia Mendez making a basket.

The Lady Stangs get a 52-19 win.

“The girls played well tonight, they pushed the ball in transition and played aggressive defense which led to many baskets” said Macksville’s head coach Chet Skinner. “The girls worked hard tonight and it paid off. We play Otis-Bison on Tuesday and look to build some momentum heading into the postseason.“

Against Kinsley, the Stangs fell behind 14-19 after one. Russell canned two 3-pointers, Lyset Ibarra made a 3-pointer and a free throw, Jennifer Ortiz made a basket and a free throw, and Wright made a free throw.

The Lady Stangs fall farther behind at the half 24-34. Lyset Ibarra went 2-2 from the line, and nailed a 3-pointer. Anshutz and Itzel Garcia both made a basket, and Wright made a free throw.

Both teams almost played even with the Stangs getting 12 points to Kinsley’s 11. Anshutz made four baskets, Wright made a basket, and Lyset Ibarra made two free throws, the score going into the fourth with the Stangs behind 36-45.

Ortiz made two baskets, Anshutz went 2-2 from the line and made a basket, and Wright made a basket.

The Lady Stangs take a 46-55 loss from the Coyotes.

“Last Tuesday’s game was tough, Kinsley is athletic and ran the floor well” said Skinner. “We gave up too many baskets in transition. We battled back and got it close but they slipped away with one tonight.”

The Lady Stangs will play at Otis-Bison on Tuesday (final not available at press time), and go up against the St. John Tigers on Friday at Macksville.
