A 30-year-old Ottawa man has been arrested in a string of thefts over the weekend, and Ottawa police are looking for a 26-year-old Ottawa woman who they believe was an accomplice in the crimes.
Anthony Underwood has been arrested in connection with the thefts in which items were stolen from vehicles parked in the 600 and 700 blocks of South Elm Street and in the 700 and 800 blocks of South Locust Street, according to police reports. The theft cases were reported between 7:36 a.m. and 8:12 p.m. Sunday. A subsequent theft connected with the investigation was reported Monday morning.
Underwood remained in the Franklin County Adult Detention Center, 305 S. Main St., Ottawa, on Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers are trying to locate Ashley Wells, 26, Ottawa, who also is wanted in connection with the thefts, Adam Weingartner, assistant police chief, said Tuesday.
The Ottawa Police Department is investigating nine cases connected with the thefts. Weingartner said all the vehicles were unlocked or unsecured.
“The items taken were random, pretty much anything that was not locked up and range from GPS units to laundry baskets,” Weingartner said.
Photos of items that have yet to be claimed by the owners are posted on the police department’s Facebook page — facebook.com/ottawapd
