State Rep. Don Schroeder, R-Hesston, filed Tuesday to run for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives.

That makes it highly likely Republican voters in the 74th District will see at least two names on the Aug. 7 primary ballot. Hesston businessman Stephen Owens filed by petition to get on the ballot. It takes time to verify signatures on a petition and as of Thursday, the Secretary of State's website still did not show Owens as a formal candidate. Owens said he is still waiting for his name to appear on the list of official candidates, but sounded confident that it is just a matter of time.

The 74th covers portions of Harvey, McPherson, and Marion counties. Schroeder, a farmer, won his first House term in 2006.

No Democrat has entered the race. The filing deadline is June 1.
