The Macksville Mustangs have a good balance with similar numbers out for both the boys and girls track teams. Both teams show a willingness to be coached.

Veteran coach Jennifer Gillespie welcomes a large group of Mustangs to the Macksville track team this Spring. There are currently 24 boys and 20 girls vying for varsity spots, which gives Gillespie good balance as well as solid numbers to work with.

“I am excited that we do have solid numbers on both the girls and boys squad, which will allow us to contend as a team at several meets,” Gillespie said.

Team members include: Senior Boys: Trevor Freeman, Willie Penner, Alex Freeman, Chris McMullen, Juan Sandoval, Jacob Rein; Senior Girls: Serena Blaske, Joanne Taylor.

Junior Boys:Jacob Suiter, Trey Britton, Andrew Cross, Darien Miller, Karson Waters ,Gerardo Fuentes, Parker Rodriguez; Junior Girls: Jacquelin Galan, Lexi Wright, Itzel Garcia, BrayLynn Anshutz, Jennifer Ortiz.

The Lady Mustangs will return state track participants BrayLynn Anshutz, Jennifer Ortiz, Itzel Garcia, Lexi Wright, and Elena Kuckelman from the 4X800

Also, Jacob Rein returns from state after medaling in the 200m, triple jump, and long jump.  “He will be one of the top returners in each of those events, and will be looking to add a fourth event to his slate at state,” said Gillespie.

“Our primary challenge will be lack of a facility to train,” Gillespie added. “That makes it difficult to be competitive in the relays, hurdles, and jumps, which have been strengths of our team in the past.”

Coach Gillespie concluded, “I am pleased thus far with this group's willingness to be coached and look forward to what this year has to bring.”
