The Newton High School softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Derby Friday at Kelsch Field.

Newton lost the first game 15-3 in five innings on the 10-run rulw and the second game 22-1 in three innings on the 15-run rule.

In the first game, Derby scored in every inning but the fifth. Newton score a run each in every inning but the first and fifth.

Newton was held to four hits.

Megan Watkins took the loss pitching for Newton.

Emily Peaney, Regan Treffer and Ashley Arellano each drove in a run.

In the second game, Derby scored 16 runs in the top of the first, a run in the second and five runs in the third. Newton scored in the bottom of the first. Newton was outhit 21-5.

Toria Thaw drove in Newton’s run.

Blazee Stahl took the loss for Newton. Alex Llamas and Josie Bacon each pitched an inning.

Newton is 0-12 and plays Tuesday at Maize.
