The short wrap-up session for the Kansas Legislature could affect a Democratic gubernatorial candidate forum scheduled this Saturday afternoon in Hutchinson.
The forum will proceed, said Harvey County Democratic Party Chairman Arnita Haury on Thursday.
Potentially two Democratic primary candidates - State Sen. Laura Kelly, Topeka, and House Minority Leader Jim Ward, Wichita - could be thwarted from participating if the Legislature, facing a May 4 adjournment, works Saturday, as some lawmakers expect.
There are other Democrats running for the nomination in the Aug. 7 primary, including: Arden Andersen, Jack Bergeson, Carl Brewer, Robert Klingenberg, Joshua Svaty, and Michael Tabman. Confirmation of which candidates will attend was not available Thursday.
Harvey and Reno County Democrats are co-sponsoring the forum. It willt ake place at Hutchinson Community College’s Stringer Fine Arts Center, 600 East 11th. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and the forum is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m.
Admission is free. The public is invited.
