SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal softball team swept rival Remington Tuesday to close out the season in Heart of America League play in Sedgwick.

The Cardinals won 10-3 and 13-0. The second game was called after five innings on the 10-run rule.

In the first game, Sedgwick scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 3-3 tie.

Avery Blank tossed a complete-game for Sedgwick, allowing one earned run on four hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Madison Hamilton took the loss for Remington. Rianna Lawler went two innings.

Macie McGinn and Bailey Zerger each went two for three hitting, driving in two runs each. Taylinn Lacey and Kylie Charles each drove in two runs. Gracie Mabry went two for four with an RBI.

Adeline Resse went two for three for Remington.

In the second game, Sedgwick scored in every inning, including a six-run second inning.

Blank threw a one-hitter in the second game, allowing a walk and striking out 10. Hamilton took the loss for Remington. Lawler pitched four innings, allowing seven walks and striking out four.

Macie McGinn went two for four hitting for Sedgwick, driving in three runs. Gracie Mabry went two for three with an RBI. Lacey and Melissa Juhnke each drove in two runs.

Reese broke up the no-hitter for Remington.

Sedgwick ends the regular season 13-7. Remington also ends the season 13-7. Both teams will start regional play Monday in the Haven Class 3A regional.

HAVEN — The Halstead Dragon softball team dropped a pair of games to Haven Tuesday in Central Kansas League.

Halstead fell 15-5 and 17-7. Both games were called after five innings on the 10-run rule.

In the first game, Haven led 10-0 after four innings. Each team scored five runs in the fifth. Halstead had 11 errors in the game.

Starr Barrett went two for four hitting for Halstead with two RBIs.

Callie Considine took the loss for Halstead, allowing just five earned runs on seven hits with eight walks and a strikeout.

Haven took an 11-1 lead in the first inning of the second game. Halstead played even with the Wildcats the rest of the way.

Daphne Williams drove in three runs for Halstead. Barrett went three for four with two RBIs.

Halstead used three pitchers. Starter Madyson Beckett took the loss.

Haven improves to 19-1 overall and in league play, winning the league title. Halstead falls to 3-17 overall and in the league. The two teams will meet again Monday in Haven in Class 3A regional play.

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal baseball team claimed two wins over rival Remington Tuesday in Heart of America League play in Sedgwick.

Sedgwick won the first game 11-8 and the second game 10-0 in six innings on the 10-run rule.

In the first game, Sedgwick fell behind 5-1, but scored seven runs in the bottom of the third. Remington tied the game in the top of the fourth, but the Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Mason Lacey drove in three runs for Sedgwick. Neal Bever drove in two runs. Brayden Francis went two for four.

Kyle Thiessen went two for four hitting for Remington with two RBIs. Trayce Thiessen also drove in two runs. Cole Sommers went two for five with an RBI.

Bever threw 3.1 innings of relief for the win, allowing five runs and striking out five. Starter Andrew Hoffsommer went three innings, allowing six walks and five strikeouts. Nolan Crumrine pitched the final two outs for the save, striking out one.

Wes Sommers took the loss for Remington, striking out two. Shane Tillotson struck out four in three innings.

In the second game, Sedgwick scored three runs in the third inning, two in the fourth and five in the sixth.

Crumrine threw six innings for the win, allowing five runs, two walks and eight strikeouts. Kyle Thiessen took the loss, striking out two. Tillotson pitched the sixth inning.

Colton Smith went four for four hitting with three RBIs. Kale Schroeder went two for four with two RBIs. Bever went two for three with an RBI.

Sedgwick is 15-3, 9-3 in HOAL play. Remington is 7-13, 3-9 in HOAL play. Sedgwick opens play Monday in the Class 3A regionals at Cheney. Remington opens play Monday in the Class 3A regionals at Humboldt.

HAVEN — The Halstead Dragon baseball team suffered a close loss and a blowout loss to Haven Tuesday in CKL play in Haven.

Halstead lost the first game 4-1 and the second game 12-2 in five innings on the 10-run rule.

In the first game, Haven scored a run each in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Halstead scored in the fourth inning on a Dalton Kraus RBI.

Jackson States tossed a three-hitter for Haven, allowing an unearned run with a walk and nine strikeouts. Dalton Kraus took the loss for Halstead, allowing eight hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

States went two for three hitting for Haven with a triple and two RBIs.

In the second game, Haven scored six runs in the first inning and pulled away from there. Nathan Rohling threw 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. Bobby Schrag pitched the last two outs for Haven.

David Schulte took the loss for Halstead, lasting three innings and striking out two. Cole Herman finished the game.

James Henkle had four hits in four at-bats for Haven, driving in two runs. Wyatt Boese went two for four with two RBIs. Ryan Jenkins went two for three with an RBI. Caleb Miller went two for four with an RBI. States went three for three.

Noah Mendez drove in a run for Halstead.

Halstead ends the regular season 4-16 overall and in CKL play. Haven finishes 15-5 overall and in league play. Both teams open Class 3A regional play Monday in the Cheney regional.
