The Macksville Mustangs captured two wins at the Barton County Community College summer basketball camp.

At Barton’s Summer League basketball held at Barton County Community College, the Macksville Mustangs came away with two victories, first defeating the Otis-Bison Cougars 55- 22, and then getting their second win against the Ellinwood Eagles 33-27.

Against the Cougars, the Mustangs lead all the way, taking a 36-16 lead at the half with Macksville’s Cody Mead, and the bookends Kaleb Lickiss and Karsen Waters doing most of the damage. The Mustangs allowed Otis just five points in the second half while the Mus- tangs added 19 with Lickiss the high scorer for the half.

The second game going up against the Ellinwood Eagles was just a little out of sync, most likely due to conditioning on both sides, resulting in the lower 36-27 Macksville win.

Waters started things out going 2/2 from the line and then making a basket, the score in Macksville’s favor 4-0. Mead’s free throw made the score 5-3 after an Ellinwood 3-pointer. Simon Acosta’s countered making the score 6-3. Then things stated happening on Ellinwood’s side after the Mustangs were leading 13-3. The Eagles started making more shots outside, the score with both teams tied 13-13. Then it was Macksville’s turn, taking an 18-14 lead. The score went within one 19-18, then 21-18. Zane Johnson sank a 3-pointer, the Mus- tangs go into the half leading 24-20.

With a combination of Mead making a basket, Lickiss making a free throw and basket, Waters a basket and free throw, the Mustangs were leading the Eagles 24-22. Ellinwood makes five points, and then Macksville finishes, taking the win 36-27.
