Stafford County student exhibition results in an outstanding performance at the Central Prairie Art League Exhibition

The Art Community is not only alive and well but thriving as recently proven by the talents of local area students.

Barton Community College’s Shafer Gallery  sponsored the Central Prairie League Art Day April 28, featuring the works of student artists from 10 area high schools.

The high schools represented were St. John, Macksville, Claflin, Kinsley/Offerle, La Crosse, Ness City, Otis-Bison, Quivira Heights,  Victoria,  and Western Plains (Bazine/Ransom).

Hosted by Macksville and exhibited at the Shafer Gallery,  Darlene Behnke, Art Director at St. John High, took 15 students to the exhibition.

“These students are very talented and were excited to be a part of this”, she said.

St. John and Macksville students, exhibited work from different medias such as water colors, digital, 3D, sculpture and more. 

Stafford County students placed as follows:

Best of Show 3D: Destiny Wendland, St. John

Acrylic and Oil: Fourth Place,  Kaylee Rose, St. John

 Watercolor: First Place, Destiny Wendland, St. John;Second, IsabelDelgadillo, Macksville;Third and Fourth, Pam Watson, St. John  

Computer Generated Art: Fourth, Brenda Ramirez, St. John

Mixed Media: Second, Destiny Wendland, St. John; Third, Javy Ortiz, Macksville; Fourth, Eddy Ibarra, Macksville

Design (color):  First, Destiny Wendland, St. John

Ceramics: First, Beau Weber, St. John; Second, Kaylee Rose, St. John; Third, Megan Welch, Macksville; Fourth, Alexis Whipple, Macksville

Sculpture:  First, Derrick Duncan, St. John

The students were honored with a reception and awards ceremony on the day of the exhibit.

All Shafer Gallery exhibits are presented in part by the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
