All of the first and second grade students at St. John Elementary recently participated in the Reading Rainbow Writing Contest.  They worked very hard on their stories and everyone is proud of their efforts.  Congratulations to the newest authors in town!

The Reading Rainbow Writing Contest is sponsored by Smokey Hills / PBS. It's a contest for all kids in K-3rd grade who want to write and illustrate their own stories.

The young authors submit their stories for judging, and a chance to win local and national prizes. Plus, everyone who enters receives a Certificate of Achievement.

When thinking about their favorite stories and how they want their story, the students learn that all good stories have a beginning, middle and an end; a central event like a conflict or a discovery; characters who change or perhaps learn a lesson and illustrations that help tell the tale.
