PELICAN PETE
PIG OUT
Elias Pelton is better known to us as Pelican Pete. He was a resident of Stafford, who lived a reclusive life on the banks of the salt marsh that is now the Quivira Wildlife Refuge. Stories and tales have been told of him and of his insights of philosophy, debating skills, scripture, mathematics and about his voracious appetite.
The Pelican Pete Pig Out is an annual celebration of the life of this colorful character and an opportunity to create awareness of the many programs offered by Quivira Wildlife Refuge and to generate funds for Stafford community projects.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., Nov. 5 will be dinner at the Stafford Senior Center with a menu of pulled pork, beans, cheesy potatoes and more - including drink and dessert.
Entertainment starts at 6:30 p.m. with the band “Crossing the Water” on stage at the Ritz Theater. Following will be the main program and perform with country western singing sensation direction from Nashville: Brent Ronen, with Chris Ronen and Dennis Teichman.
The program also features a film highlighting famous Kansas and a remembrance and tribute to Pelican Pete himself. Door prize drawings will wrap up the evening.
Advanced tickets are $20 until Oct. 31. Door tickets are $25. Tickets are available at American State Bank in St. John; Freunds Crafts and Flowers, Quivira Insurance, Farmers National Bank and the city offices in Stafford.
