Beginning Monday, January 4, producers may start applying fore the SURE Program at any FSA county office.

SURE is the acronym for Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments program and is accordance with the 2008 Farm Bill.  Producers who have suffered losses due to natural disasters will receive payments beginning in January - just in time to help them with the planning of the next years’ crop.

To be eligible for SURE, producers must have suffered at least a ten percent loss on a crop of economic significance.  Producers must meet the risk management purchase requirement by either obtaining a policy or plan of insurance, under the Federal Crop Insurance Act or NAP coverage, for all economically significant crops.

For 2008 crops, producers had the opportunity to obtain a waiver of the risk management purchase requirement through a buy-in provision.  Producers considered socially disadvantaged or a beginning farmer or rancher, or a limited resource farmer,  may be eligible for SURE without a policy or plan of insurance or NAP cove.
