On October 8, a special candlelight tour “Connecting to the Human Experience”, will be held at Fort Larned. The tour commemorates those famous people who were at Fort Larned or became famous after being at the Fort.
Scenes will introduce visitors to George Custer, “Buffalo” Bill Cody, J.E.B “Jeb” Stuart, Kit Carson, and many others who were here.
You will have the opportunity to step back in time to see them in everyday life much as it might have taken place while Fort Larned was an active post. Details of the scenes are gleaned from the actual post records, letters and diaries.
Numerous volunteer positions are available to assist with the tours and if you are interested volunteering please call the park staff and discuss current opportunities.
The tours are free but reservations are required for the tour and each tour is limited to 20 people. The first tour will leave the visitor center at 7:30 pm and the last will begin at 10:15 pm. Reservations can be made beginning Monday, September 26 in person or by calling the Fort at 620-285-6911 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. This annual program is the most popular event held at the Fort and the tours fill quickly.
