Scott “Scooter” Kraus, 48, of McFarland passed away at his home on Friday, November 18, 2011. Scott was born on February 16, 1963, in Denver Colo. He was the son of Kenneth “Butch” Kraus and Beverly (Thomas) Kraus.
Scott grew up in the Morris County area and was a graduate of White City High School in 1981. Scott then attended Pratt Community College where he met and married his first wife, Karel Welch. Their daughter, Kara, was born in 1984. Scott later married Aimee McLain on February 14, 2003, in Manhattan.
Scott was known to enjoy life, whether it was riding his motorcycle through the Flint Hills or enjoying a softball game with his family. He not only enjoyed large family gatherings where he could “catch up” with everyone, but enjoyed getting away with his wife and nieces for a weekend of outdoor fun as well. Scott was known by many as a good friend. He was actively involved in a self-help program and enjoyed volunteering his time to helping others.
Scott’s passions included motorcycles, whether it was building one of his own or being an active rider in many associations. He was a charter member of Soulriders S/C, proudly rode in the Patriot Guard and was a member of Christian Calvary Motorcycle Ministry until the time of his death. Music and tattoo art were also a big part of Scott’s life.
In October 2010, Scott was involved in and survived a traumatic motorcycle accident. Although his recovery was a long and difficult journey, Scott was determined not to give up and was aided by his family, his faith, the many prayers of friends and strangers as well as the wonderful nursing staff at KU Medical Center. For anyone who personally knew Scott, they knew that he came away from the experience not only grateful for his survival, but for the outpouring of love he and his family received as well.
Scott is survived by his wife Aimee of the home; daughter Kara Kraus and Brian and Gage Lawrence, Larned; mother Beverly Kraus, Council Grove; brother Rob Kraus and wife Carmen, Talmage, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by father Butch Kraus, infant sister Kimberly Kraus and grandparents Roy and Stella Kraus and Leo and Muriel Thomas.
Scott will be remembered by many for his kind heart, the laughter he shared and the encouragement he gave others many times over. Most of all, the “bear hugs” he so freely gave and the sound of his voice when he would calmly say “I love you” to his family and friends will never be forgotten.
Funeral services were held at the White City United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 26. Scott was laid to rest next to his father at the Prairie View Cemetery at the Emmanuel Church, rural Alta Vista.
