Students in Pre-school through sixth grade will be participating in the International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.  Students and staff will leave from the school at 8:05 a.m. and proceed to the square.  The walk will continue around the square and end back at the elementary school.  This is a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, community members to meet at the square and walk with the students and teachers.  So, dig out those "sneakers," and come walk with us on October 5, in support of the International Walk to School Day.

The sixth grade class will be taking part in a Fishing Trip on September 28th.  Sixth Graders will be fishing at Minnis' pond and participating in a nature walk.  On the same day the fifth grade class will be spending the day at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge.

Acitivities this past week included the elementary bicycle unit organized by Ms. Friesen.  Ms. Friesen would like to thank the following individuals for their help.  We appreciate your time and dedication to our students.  Volunteers and Helpers: TJ Rockenbach, Terry Spradley, Nick Garcia, Jonelle Hudson, Rodney Fox, Leslie Tanner, Carolyn Dunn, Sara Delp, Nick Lauffer, Adam Sayler

Young children sometimes forget the dangers involved in walking or riding on city streets.  Please take a moment to visit with your children about safety rules when walking and biking to school.  Included below are a few points to remind students of anytime they are walking or riding on the street.

Safety guidelines points: 1. Remember to look both ways when crossing streets.  Don't let friends distract you.  Stop, look, and listen for vehicles.  2. Always wear helmets and padding when biking, skate boarding, or roller skating.  3. Help younger brothers and sisters cross safely.  4. Obey traffic signals.  5. Cross streets at crosswalks.  6. Make yourself visible.  7. Cross at a walking speed.

Upcoming events:  Oct. 3 - 7 Fire Safety Week.
