Jan. 27: John Two-Hawks performance - Barton Community College is proud to host this concert and lecture featuring Grammy and Emmy nominated Native American performer, John Two-Hawks.
In conjunction with the Shafer Gallery’s current exhibit, “Native Witness: Indians in the Shafer”, Barton will host the lecture at 2 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
“Native Witness: Indians in the Shafer” opened January 22 and is currently running..
The exhibit focuses on Native American themed film and art work. It will include Native American film screenings featuring the work of Bently Spang, a member of the Northern Cheyenne Nation in Montana, as well as a collection of Native American blankets and wood carvings from the collection of Robert Button of Great Bend.
Two-Hawks is of Oglala Lakota Sioux lineage and has spent his life learning from the elders and teachers of many nations. Through his lectures, he passes on the wealth of knowledge and insight into the history and culture of the American Indian people.
A master of the American Indian flute as well as his powerful singing voice has earned him international acclaim and his awe-inspiring performances captivate audiences with the ancient beauty of his music and the profound wisdom of his teachins resonate with answers for all of humanity.

Sunday, January 29: The public is invited to the Santa Fe Trail Center for a unique musical presentation in the Center’s auditorium.
Aaron Fowler of Wichita will entertain in celebration of Kansas Day and it’s a perfect way to start 2012 and commemorating 151 years of statehood.
A native of Kansas, Fowler began his music career as a teacher in Wichita. He’s a member of the Kansas Arts on Tour roster with the Kansas Arts Commission, as well as a Wolf Trap Early Education Teach Artist with Kansas Wolf Trap. He is also a founding artist and Artist Coordinator with Arts Partners of Wichita.
Following the concert will be a reception with birthday cake. Admission is FREE.

Thursday, Feb. 2: Basic Beginning Computer Class - from 5 pm to 6 pm is date date and time to learn what to do with that computer you just bought.
Four classes will be held for the basic beginner which will cover the hardware you’ll use along with the techniques to easily navigate through your documents.
Topics to be covered:
* Operate a mouse
* Understand and use the computer desktop
* Identify and demonstrate use of the various icons
* Construct, save, open, edit, undo, delete and move files and folders
* Identify and operate various parts of a window
* Convert a directory window to view icons or lists
* Define and identify keyboard shortcuts and why they are necessary
* Get rid of unwanted files
* Know how to empty the Trash / Recycle Bin
* Shut down, turn off and start up a computer
* Know how to use the online help
* Identify and distinguish the two parts of the computer
* Compare and contrast Macintosh vs Windows
* Know how to find “lost” folders and files
For those that have no experience, or limited experience, this is a course that will give you the confidence, skills and vocabulary you need to make computing fast and fun.

Feb. 4: Stafford County Museum Benefit - A soup supper to benefit the Stafford County Museum will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Methodist Church located at 218 W. Stafford Street in Stafford.
The public is invited to come out and enjoy the four kinds of homemade soup: Chili, Vegetable, Cheesy Potato and Taco Soup plus a variety of cakes will be featured on the menu.
This benefit will conclude the silent Celebrity Auction that has been ongoing and bidding on these items will close at 7 p.m.
Proceeds for the evening will go toward the glass negatives project as well as other general operating expenses.
