Monday, Oct. 3, the USD 350 Board of Education opened the meeting by recognizing Carol Long and Mitch Minnis for their service on the board which ended June 30.

Carol and Mitch were both presented with plagues recognizing there many years of service.
Carol served on the board for eight years and Mitch served for over ten years.
Please add your thanks to ours when you see them.

Following the presentation Mitch made a presentation of his own.

He presented a framed copy of a speech by Abraham Lincoln and challenged the current board of education to use it as a reminder of why they serve on the board.

The words of Lincoln's speech are given below and are a good reminder of what schooling and parenting should be our focused on as we educate and raise the current and future generations of kids.

It is also not a bad reminder of how we should evaluate the work of our local, state, and national leaders as they go about their work for this country.

"A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started.  He is going to sit where you are sitting and, when you are gone, attend to those things which you think are important.  You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they will be carried out depends on him.  He will assume control of your cities, states, and nations.  He is going to move in and take over our churches, schools, universities, and corporations.  All your books are going to be judged, praised, and condemned by him.  The fate of humanity is in his hands.  Teach him well."  - Abraham Lincoln

Upcoming events: Oct. 20 End of First Quarter, Oct. 21 No School - Professional Development Day, Oct. 22 Volleyball Sub-state at St. John.
