Scottish Festival, McPherson: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, Lakeside Park
We’re all Scots at this time of year and 2011 is the Year of Pipe & Drum at this 18th annual festival that features music, dance, athletics, kids’ games and food, food, food. You’ll see 100 pipers (BAGpipers that is) and drummers as you celebrate the heritage and culture of Scotland, Ireland, Wales and the other Celtic Lands. Highland games include strongman demos, there’s hands on crafts for kids, and their own pint-size Highland games, there is so much to list - we just cant. But we can list the whisky tasting event!

Mad about Monarchs, KWEC: Saturday , Sept. 24 KWEC, 9 am to noon
Capture and tag the cute little butterflies for the University of Kansas Monarch Watch project. This FREE event will teach you what to do and how to do it then you’ll be given nets and tags to go out capture the little guys to record the data about them.
There’s also info on butterfly gardens - how to attract them - and you’ll see samples of the plants that they love. There’s also kids crafts and activities along with door prizes and refreshments.

Performing Arts Showcase, PCC in Pratt: Sunday, Sept. 25, 2:30 pm in Carpenter Auditorium
The Pratt Community College performing arts department will present a Performing Arts Showcase featuring PCC students in both musical numbers and dramatic pieces as well as performances by faculty and friends. This is a fundraiser for the department and a donation of $5 per person is suggested.

As they say, “Book it to the Oktoberfest Sale”, where the Stafford United Methodist Women will host this annual event. Offered are hard cover and paperback books of all genres. All the proceeds from the book sale go to benefit missions both in Stafford and beyond. Now go shop and restock your library - it’s for a good cause and it’ll be some good reading, too.

Granny Mae was a teacher, an avid gardener and a changing of the seasons lover. This festival includes a pick your own Pumpkin, Gourd and Indian Corn field, a living maze with scavenger hunt, a haunted forest, straw jump, bonfires with marshmallow roast, hayrack rides thru “Scarecrow Meadow”, a children train ride, music, and a lot more. This is just a whole lot of great family fun - regardless if you have little ones or not. There’s a gift shop and a harvest barn, a candy store a cider house...and if you have a big family to-do, you can rent a private picnic or bonfire site. K-6 - Have Fun with a Pillowcase, Thursday, Sept. 22 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Witt Community Center is the place to be for grades Kindergarten through 6th to get creative and a little crazy with their artistic abilities.
