Live TV coverage-3-2-1A Wresting State Championships:    Friday, Feb. 26 at 1;30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 27 at 4:30 p.m.  Can’t make it in person? Smoky Hills Public Television is providing live coverage of the best high school wrestlers in the state as they complete live. Hundreds of wrestlers will be gathering to compete at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays. Quarter and semi’s begin Friday and finals are set for Saturday. Smoky Hills will broadcast an encore presentation on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m.  Stay in, stay warm, order a burger from the Short Stop or a pizza from Humble Pie and enjoy live wrestling as it happens.

Wichita Garden Show:   Wednesday thru Sunday, March 3 - March 7. “Gardens of the World” is this years theme that celebrates the ethnic diversity of cultures and neighborhoods in local and statewide communities. Here’s some of the things you can expect to see: Fine Art Exhibition, Quilt show, Needle Art - all featuring flowers, plants and landscapes; hourly gardening seminars by K-State Research & Extension of Sedgwick Co., and more than 200 commercial exhibits displaying the latest and greatest in lawn and garden products to make your garden more beautiful and your work much easier. “Beauty and the Beast”:   Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 7, at 2 p.m.  This Spring Musical is presented by Barton students and community members. Directed by Vern Fryberger and Erin Renard; orchestra directed by Steve Lueth - tickets are $10 and $8. Walk Kansas:   March 7 is the K-State Research & Extension kickoff date for the fitness program. This is an 8 week, team based program that helps you and others to lead a healthier lifestyle. Pram cost is $5 per participant. For more info or registration, contact the Stafford Co. Extension office at 549-3502 or visit www.walkkansas.org. Deadline is Friday, March 5.

Instrumental Concert:   Thursday, 7:30 p.m., March 11, BCC Fine Arts Auditorium featuring strings and jazz and a percussion ensemble.

Literary project for area writers:    The submission deadline for Barton Community College’s first literary magazine, Prairie Ink, is April 1.

Editors Jaime Oss and Teresa Johnson welcome a variety of entries including fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama, literary criticism, and graphic narratives that can be reproduced in black and white photography. They invite entries from Barton students and all residents of the seven counties in Barton’s educational region which includes all of Stafford County.

Writers are asked to submit their work electronically using the rules of manuscript format that can be found on the Prairie Ink Web site, www.prairieink.bartonccc.edu.

Submissions may be e-mailed to praireink@bartonccc.edu. They must include a cover letter with the author’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address, title of submission and a brief bio.
