Defense wins games, or at least it was that way in Pratt's Tournament of Champions Friday night when St. John's Lady Tigers forced nine Wichita North turnovers in the first quarter, building a 19-7 lead and keeping it to the very end, defeating 6A North 52-39.

“We knew it wasn't going to be easy, so we had to come out playing physical and not be scared.” said junior guard Morgan Osborne. “I am very proud of our team for stepping up and taking care of things.”

Offensively, it didn't hurt to have several three's thrown in the mix at the beginning (Osborne making the first one, Haley Falk the second and Tia Smith making a buzzer-beater), plus Teresa Wade practically living at the free throw line making six of her eight attempts in the first few minutes. In fact, the Lady Tigers made almost half their points from the foul line going 25/40.

With the Tigers victory, they'll be meeting the Pratt Greenbacks in the Championship game at 8 pm. this Saturday. North will be playing Wichita South, (who earlier suffered a lop-sided loss to Pratt), at 6 pm. for third place.

In the second day of the free throw contest, adding yesterday's results, Osborne and Wade tied, both making 35-50. Almost the same in the 3-point contest where Wade shot 13-30 and Jamie Waters close behind making 12-30.
