Macksville’s Lady Mustangs ended their season losing 38-42 to Cunningham in the first round of regional play, Tuesday ending their season at 10-12.
The Lady Stangs started well scoring 14 points in the first quarter with Yasnaya Susoeff hitting a deuce and following with a trey. Jena Clowers hit a pair of two-pointers while Courtney Schultz hit a deuce and Megan Wood sunk 1-2 from the foul line and one from the field giving Macksville a 14-8 lead at the end of one.
Another three-pointer by Susoeff in the second and a pair of deuces from Clowers kept the ladies on top 25-17 at the half, but after the break the wheels came off the Mustang offense.
Cunningham closed the gap in the third scoring 12 points to Macksville’s seven with six of Cunningham’s points coming off free throws.
Clowers and Wood both hit one from the field in the third. Clowers hit the second of two on the line. Wood hit 2-2 foul shots.
In the final quarter Cunningham overtook the Mustangs with Megan Wood hitting a pair form the field and Mindy Wood sinking one two-pointer. While the offense slowed, Macksville’s defense couldn’t hold off Cunningham’s fourth quarter run as they scored 13 for the 42-38 final.
