The Macksville Mustangs advanced to the next level of the Mid-Winter Classic defeating Central Plains, 70-55, Thursday.

The Mustangs had three players break double –digits in scoring with Jorge Baray Adolfo Ibarra and Adam Oak each scoring 12 points.

Baray hit a pair of three pointers early in the first while Tanner Tranbarger added a pair of two-pointers, and Ibarra went 2-2 from the line for 14 points.

Central came close to matching the Stangs opening number with 13 off three deuces by Layne Bieberle a trey by Bryce Steiner and a pair of two’s from Joe Barton.

The Mustangs had a hot second quarter scoring 22 points setting the stage for a 36-22 half time lead, and the final 70-55 win.

The Mustangs, now 8-1 will face 8-0 Pratt in the 8:15 game, Friday for the semi-final round.

Pratt is coming off a 54-51 win over the Wichita West Pioneers in Thursday’s late game.

The Greenbacks were lead by Micah Swank scoring 27 points hitting 9-12 from the line and 9-27 from the field.

In earlier action Medicine Lodge will take on Nickerson for the top half of the bracket semi-final round.

Medicine Lodge knocked of Larned 61-58  in Tuesday’s late game. Nickerson defeated St. John 73-62 in the first round.

The Tigers defeated Larned, 69-46, in the consolation round Thursday as they fight through the back half of the bracket. They will the winner of today’s match between Wichita West and Central Plains at 4:45 p.m., Saturday.

Larned will face the loser of that game at 3 p.m., Saturday for 7th place.
