According to the song by the Irish Band Duke Special, Wanda maybe the Darling of the Jockey Club, but a group of local musicians, videographers and actors made Wanda the darling of the South Branch in a recent YouTube video.

Terry and Linda Welch along with Timmy and Tim Easley, Herb Phillips, Great Bend, Dayle Fischer, Hudson and other supporting actors made a three-minute video of the song for fan-made videos requested by the band, Duke Special.

The band held a fan-made video contest to help promote the song, which is due to be released on May 17. THe band is currently on tour in the UK and Ireland.

“Linda wrote the script, Bill (Mitchell of Mitchell Video Service, Great Bend) did the video work, I’m just the banjo player,” he said.

The script centers on the song lyrics about Wanda, a female pilot, and her local hangout.

St. John police chief Sonny Ralston has a cameo role in the video that ends up with him getting a bottle of champagne sprayed in his face.

Chris Pinkston provided a plane for the video’s prop and much of the inside filming was done at the South Branch, as the setting for the Jockey Club.

Fischer, Phillips, and Welch are the three-member band providing footage and music and other area residents serve as background extras in the YouTube video including Lonnie Staub, St. John and Joanne Keil, Hoisington. Mitchell Video Services did the video taping and editing. The soundtrack was done by Troy Willinger of Thunder Alley Studio, St. John. The South Branch was provided courtesy of Pattie Waters, and Linda said "Wanda's" hairstyling was done byMarge Clark at the Glamour Spot.

“I’m not sure what the band will do with it now, but it was fun making it,” Welch said.
