“What say you!” - a mini sports editorial.
Its getting to the point when I'm reading the Hutchinson News and seeing many times over how great the Hutch Central Christian girls basketball team is and the super-human play of their “guard” Jamie Patrick. (Now don't get me wrong, Jamie's a nice girl and one of the best 1A players around plus comes from a great family.) My beef is with the Hutch News “unbiased” reporting coming from their sports page (and sometimes even from their front page).
My mouth drools with the prospect of the St. John Lady Tigers playing heads-up basketball against the Celtics, seeing exactly who's the best 1A school in this area. Of course, I've always been a dreamer.(Notice I didn't say in the State because Hoxie might have something to say about that.)
Anyway, I would almost be willing to sell-off the back forty, use it for cash as a bet, even spot the Celtics a ten point lead, have the Tigers play them and see what happens.
I remember when the Lady Tigers volleyball team won State! If you looked hard enough, you'd find a 2 ½ inch column on the second page of the Hutch News about our girls. Worse yet, power house McPherson who took second place in 4A State volleyball received no coverage at all. What about Hoisington's gals taking second in 3A? or Pratt-Skyline's girls taking fourth in IIA? I could to on and on but I don't want to bore you anymore.
I miss the good old days when the Hutch News had great coverage for the Southwestern Kansas area and of course especially for the St. John Tigers. (I'm not talking about the box scores and scores which are phoned in by the schools – I do appreciate seeing them in the paper.). That's the main reason why subscribed to their paper. Please, pretty please bring back the Southwestern Kansas coverage. I miss it.
Do any of you avid St. John Lady sports fans have any comment about this? I know you do because I've seen you, bringing up this subject and voicing very STRONG opinions.
As Aragorn in “The Lord of the Rings” would say, “What Say You?!”.
