High school girls basketball wound up to its final day of tournament competition last weekend with some exciting outcomes in central, south-central and southwestern Kansas.

Closer to home, the 11-1 St. John Tigers lost their first game of the season Saturday night at Pratt's Tournament of Champions, the Lady Tigers taking second place after losing to the Pratt Greenbacks 40-29 in a closely fought battle of defenses, pitting the 6th ranked in 4A Greenbacks against the top ranked 1A (Div. I) Tigers.

(For more information about the St. John-Pratt game, look for the article in this week's St. John News.)

The Tigers next competition will be at home this Tuesday, the games starting at 4 pm.with a CPL match-up against the Western Plains Bobcats, probably the last basketball game the Bobcats will have with the Lady Tigers, with Western Plains leaving the CPL at the end of this school year.

In other action, the Spearville Lady Lancers surprised just about everyone, defeating the #1 ranked 1A (Div. I) Ingalls Bulldogs in overtime at the SPIAA Tournament in Dodge 48-45. The third place finish had the Bucklin girls running away from the 4th rank in IA South Central Timberwolves 48-30.

To the east in the Berean Basketball Tourney, the #2 ranked in IIA Berean Academy Warriors defeated 4th ranked 1A (Div. I) Hutch Central Christian 47-33.
