Leonard Getty died Wednesday. He served as fire chief and firefighter for St. John for many years. He was a lifetime resident of St. John.

Leonard Owen  Getty, age 59, died January 4, 2012 at St. John.  He was born Nov. 8, 1952 at Lamar, CO.  His parents were Charles Robert and Norma I. Getty. 

A life-long resident of St. John, he was a farmer/stockman, graduating from St. John High School in 1971.  His memberships were Oddfellows and past Fire Chief, both of St. John. 

On May 8, 1976 he married Diane Waters at St. John, she survives of the home.  Other survivors include, two sons, Travis and Heath Getty of St. John; a daughter, Leah Ward, St. John; two sisters, Linda Cooper, Guymon, OK., and Charlene Hill, St. John; and three grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan.  7, 2012 at the Mid-Kansas Ag Building, 94 NW 20th ST., St. John, Ks  67576, with Rod Lyons presiding.

Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.  Visitation will be on Friday from 3-8pm at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Brynlin Sanders fund in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, Ks  67576.
