GARDEN CITY, Kan  – Lena E. Kells, 76, of Garden City, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at Homestead Assisted Living in Garden City. She was born Oct. 5, 1933 in Finney  County, the daughter of James Abner and Esther Katherine (Metz) Faulconer.

Kells grew up in Finney County attending Holcomb Schools and later attended classes at Seward County and Garden City Community Colleges. On Oct. 20, 1952 she married Walter Harold Kells in Raton, New Mexico. After marrying, they farmed in Haskell County for 25 years before moving to Garden City in 1978 where she continued to reside. A homemaker and farm wife, she also worked for over 12 years in food services for the Garden City and Satanta schools.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter who died on Sept. 25, 1984; her parents and four brothers: James Faulconer, Harold Faulconer, David Faulconer and Donald Faulconer.

Survivors include daughters Elaine and husband Mark Ramsey of Garden City; Linda and husband Dennis Engel of Oakley; Donna and husband Bill Thornbrugh of St. John; Julie DeHerrera of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers Charles Faulconer of Wheatland, Wyo.; William Faulconer of Garden City; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with Rev. Brenda Fluellen officiating with burial at Valley View Cemetery. The family requests memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Finney County Senior Center both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
