Ruby May (Newby) Piland, age 98, died Nov. 8, 2011 at Sunnyvale. She was born Nov. 24, 1912 in rural Stafford County, the daughter of Jonah Luther and Millie May (Roberts) Newby. A long time resident of Macksville, she was a homemaker and farmer. Her memberships include Friends Church and Missionary Society, Grace United Methodist Church and EHU. On August 11, 1935, she married Joseph E. Piland, he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Jim Piland and wife Geneva, Macksville; a daughter, Janice Holstein and husband Alfred, Los Altos, Calif.; two sisters, Elsie Row, Arvada, Colo., Delsie Bond, Stafford; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Piland, a brother Vern Newby and a sister, Myrtle Munden.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Macksville, with Pastor Byoung Lee presiding.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Macksville.
Burial will be in the Prattsburg Cemetery, Stafford County.
Memorials may be given to the Methodist Church or South Wind Hospice, both of in care of the Chapel.
