DALLAS, Texas - Bonnie Lou Metz Ashford, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on December 6, 2009, in Dallas. She was born August 21, 1933, in Hudson to John W. and Emma Metz. She graduated from St. John High School in St. John, and the University of Kansas in 1955.
She married Ted Ashford in 1956 and became a Registered Nurse. She was an avid gardener and loved her family dearly. She dedicated much of her time to the Brookwood Community and Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. Her greatest joy was to spend time with family and friends at her home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Ted Ashford of Dallas, Texas; four devoted daughters, Tina Jans and her husband Nicolas of Plano, Texas, Keri Tedford and her husband Ted of Dallas, Texas, Shannon Kizer and her husband Jay of Ft. Worth, Texas and Laura Jane Ashford of Brookwood Community in Brookshire, Texas; her loving grandchildren, Ashley Woodruff and her husband Jerrod, Nicolas and Christopher Jans, Madison and Elizabeth Tedford, and Jenner and Abby Kizer; her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Ercell Swain of Wichita, and a host of loving family members. She was preceded in death by five of her siblings.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brookwood Community Endowment Fund, 1752 Farm-to-Market Road 1489, Brookshire, Texas 77423, or to the Chapelwood UMC Bonnie and Ted Ashford Scholarship Fund.
