I am proud of the St. John schoolteachers for getting out and informing the public how the lack of state funding will impact our schools. It is so easy to sit there complaining and do nothing. Our teachers are knocking on doors trying to rally our community to save our school and to keep quality education.

For the past 30 years I've been in my own classroom, the truck. My truck is equipped with a great educational device called the radio. Did you know there are stations that don't play music? If you listen to them, you can actually learn a thing or two.

One of my favorite teachers is Neal Boortz. It was on his radio show where I first heard about the Fair Tax. Since Mr. Boortz was one of the creators, people would ask questions, he had an answer. The more I heard, the more I liked the Fair Tax.

I was at the meet and greet for Mr. Huelskamp, who is running for our U S Congress. I asked him what he thought of the Fair Tax. He must of had the same teacher that I had because he thought it would be the best thing we could do.

Here is a short version of how the Fair Tax would be beneficial to us. How many people does it take to make a pencil? It wouldn't surprise me that 1,000 or more people from getting the raw material to putting it on the shelf of the store. If none of companies and workers had to pay income tax out of the money they made, the pencil could be produced at a lower cost.

Once it is in the store, the Fair Tax would be added to the cost of the pencil. If the pencil cost one dollar to buy today, with the Fair Tax, it would cost about one dollar. The more money you have in your paycheck, the more pencils you can buy.

The people that are against the Fair Tax are, the IRS, tax attorneys and income tax preparers. The people we have in Washington, right now don't like the fair tax. I wonder why? Could it be that they can't find a loop hole?

According to www.fairtax.org, there is $1.5 trillion that is in the underground market and is not being taxed. Now our local drug dealers, prostitutes, burglars, scam artist, congressmen and illegal immigrants would be paying taxes if there was a Fair Tax.

What do you think the State of Kansas could do with their share of the $1.5 trillion? I'm sure there would be enough to fund our schools.

It is nice to be able to get an education as I go down the road. I will continue my higher education as I sit in my truck, three-feet higher than your car.
