I had to agree with Ron Moores’ letter about useless stop signs (11/9) when he said we have too many of them in St. John.
The reason I agree with his opinion is because we have four 4 way stops, I believe, that are just five blocks from each other which I think is a bit of overkill in such a short span of road.
I am not saying all 4 of them are useless because the two beside the school on Main Street actually does help a lot with people speeding by school buses and kids, but the other two that were put up I think are just useless.
Yes a little boy did get hit on his bicycle, which could have been prevented if he had looked both ways or if the driver of the vehicle was paying a little more attention since they were in a school zone.
But putting stop signs up because of this was just plain stupidity of the city. I say this because what happened to that kid could have been prevented if people actually followed the signs that are already posted, or even followed the rules written in the drivers’ handbook.
So all these stops signs are doing is exactly what everyone should have learned when they went and got their drivers licenses.
