Simple Life-Don't worry be happy

Life just loves to smack us with challenges which we don’t want and aren’t ready for. It’s so easy, when clobbered, to go, “Blaaaahhhhhhh!” and fall apart. It’s even easier to worry constantly about stuff we don’t really need to worry about.

The late and great comedian George Carlin had this wonderful comic sketch entitled “Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things!” A comic masterpiece of not being concerned about the things which are out of our control! I also liked the message in Bobby McFarrin’s classic song, “Don’t Worry…Be Happy!”

A certain level of concern is a good thing because it leads to foresight and preparedness. But panicking when things don’t go our way or worrying about things we can’t do anything about is…well...just complicated.

When you get right down to it, nearly everything we face in this enormous world is really “small stuff” in the vast flow of time. Next time you’re tempted to freak out over one of life’s ordinary complexities or worry about something beyond your ability to fix, repair or which is out of your control but worrying the crap out of you (and yes...I said the "C" word), take a deep breath and whisper to yourself the Serenity Prayer (“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”)

Recognizing what's within our control (things we can change) and those situations and circumstances which are beyond our control (things we can't change) allows life to be lived much simpler and with more peace. Simply stated, "Don't Worry...Be Happy!"
