The state-bound 24-1 St. John Lady Tigers basketball team increased their winning streak to 24 with commanding wins over the Minneola Wildcats 56-29 in semi-round action and the Satanta Lady Indians 56-36 in the championship round at the Dodge City 1A sub-state held in the Civic Center last Friday and Saturday evenings.
The Macksville Mustangs clinched the sub-state title, Saturday at Dodge City by defeating Quivira Heights 46-44 in a game that came down to the waning seconds.
The Macksville Mustangs ended their bid for another state title, Tuesday, losing to the South Gray Rebels 54-45 in round one of the tournament.

The Macksville Mustangs advanced to the sub-state finals, Thursday, defeating the Ingalls Bulldogs 66-51 at Dodge City Civic Center.
The Macksville Mustangs move on to state play after a couple close wins defeating Haviland 49-43, Thursday and South Barber 36-33 on Saturday with two of their five starters on the bench due to injuries.

Macksville’s Lady Mustangs ended their season losing 38-42 to Cunningham in the first round of regional play, Tuesday ending their season at 10-12.
The St. John Tigers ended their run through regionals Thursday after losing 32-45 to the Claflin Wildcats. The Tigers finished their season at 10-10.
The St. John Lady Tigers gave no quarter against the Rozel-Pawnee Heights Indians, starting with a 13-2 first quarter lead and going on to win 48-22 in the second round of the Claflin 1A Regional last Friday evening.
The 19-1 St. John Lady Tigers won their third straight game of the week last Friday evening at Macksville, defeating a scrappy Macksville Ladies team, the Tigers slowly building a lead throughout the game, and winning 55-29.

It was an emotional beginning for St. John's last home game, not only for the players and coaches, but for the St. John fans as well, as head coach Danny Smith added injured senior guard Tori Astle to the starting five. Astle received a season-ending injury during a soap scrimmage exhibition at the beginning of the year.
The St. John Lady Tigers saw something almost new last Tuesday evening at Kinsley, a man-to-man defense thrown at them by a quick Lady Coyotes team, the Lady Tigers having to adjust from usually playing against a zone to playing against a man-to-man, eventually pulling away for the win 44-23. In the process, sometimes the St. John guards had difficulties holding on to the ball or getting the ball inside. Even though it wasn't that effective, the Coyotes did a full-court press against the Tigers.

On the girls' side in the Clafin Regional, St. John (19-1) has a bye in the first round and will play the winner of the Rosel-Pawnee Heights (7-11) - Chase (6-14) game played at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 . The winner will face the winner of the Quivira Heights (17-3) – Claflin (12-8) game in the championship round played on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
