DERBY — The Newton High School boys’ golf team, without one of its top golfers, finished fifth out of nine teams Monday at the Derby Invitational at the Derby Country Club.

Arkansas City won at 367, followed by Hutchinson at 371, McPherson at 374-102, Derby 374-106 and Newton at 398.

Jacob Lackey finished as top medalist at 82, folllowed by Kayden Steiner of Arkansas City at 85 and Xander Anderson of Hutchinson at 88.

For Newton, Erick Hernandez and Hunter Lujano each shot a 97, followed by Zach Engelken at 100, Austin Lakey at 104, Tanner DeGrado at 105 and Hervey Medina at 115.

Newton was without Tanner Pauls.

Newton competes at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hesston Invitational at the Hesston Golf Course.
